The idea for OffMyShelf.com was conceived back in 2005. After we conducting various surveys, speaking to many fellow filmmakers, and research on the internet, we came to the conclusion that a tool to help the filmmaker create exposure directly to acquisition managers or Buyers using a Bidding System, had to be created!
When Vincent came on board,we started the development process which lasted three years.
In late 2008, the site was pretty much functioning and ready to go. We spent all of 2009 testing it, and although we finally have another player on the scene, we believe choice for the user and competition for us is welcomed, keeps us all in good health. So here it is:
A web portal for Filmmakers, sales agents and acquisition mangers to meet and do business. OffMyShelf.com is an organisation created with a unique Rights Bidding System that allows a rights holder to exploit their film title to the global market.
The Rights Bidding System allows a Buyer to place a bid on specific films for specific territories, giving the rights holder the option of accepting or rejecting the bid. Our main function is to provide a tool for a filmmaker or for anyone who owns or controls territorial rights to a feature film, a tool that enables all filmmakers and sales agents to exploit their film title to potential Buyers. Consequently it is a tool for a Buyer, giving access to new film titles coming on the market and also access to existing libraries of movies represented by reputable sales agents from around the world.
OffMyShelf.com is generally free to use for both Buyer and Seller while on Beta mode. So if you are a sales agent who represent a library or a filmmaker who has made a feature length film and would like to expose it to acquisition managers from around the world, register now!
Our purpose is aide the transition of moving from the traditional sales agent to the online platform, which can be accessed by almost anyone who is a filmmaker and has access to the internet, giving equal opportunity to all who have gone thru the laborious process of making a feature film. Without a doubt, we do incur costs and we have the ambition of growing and serving our members better, faster and more productively and for that, we will soon be introducing various charges once we come off Beta mode.
